Three city workers were injured Thursday afternoon when a gas line they were working on exploded. Two of the workers were flown to Lubbock, Texas, and the third was taken to Dumas, Texas. It is not know how or why the gas ignited. There was a fourth employee at the scene, but he was not injured in the explosion. The names of the injured employees have not yet been released.
The explosion, which happened on the west side of the city near the 600 block of Avenue K, caused a voluntary evacuation of Avenues J and K, although no structures were damaged in the blast. Gas has been shut off in the city until repairs could be made to the line.
