ODESSA, Texas—A personal injury lawsuit has been filed in Ector County District Court Tuesday after a Shawn Parker, a minor, was severely injured at Altitude Trampoline Park.
We also provide a pdf copy of the lawsuit filed against Altitude Trampoline Park.
A press conference will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at its offices Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers at 422 N Grant Ave, Odessa TX 79761. The attorney for the plaintiff and Parker’s parents will be available for questions.
Parker was injured in April 2018 when he jumped from a rock climbing wall into a foam pit at Altitude Trampoline Park in Odessa on East 42nd Street. Not only was the foam pit too shallow, but instead of having a trampoline at the bottom, it merely had a dense foam pad.
Parker suffered fractures to his tibia and fibula in his right leg, requiring surgery on April 30th. After surgery, he was in a thigh-high cast until June, a knee-high cast until July, and a boot until August. He underwent eight weeks of rehabilitation and physical therapy.
“We have seen an increase in injuries at these trampoline parks,” Laney Piercy, attorney for the plaintiff, said. “And it’s important for parents to know that the waiver they sign does not waive their child’s right to sue for injuries, and so if their child is hurt at these parks, they may still have a case.”
Before the incident, Parker was an active swimmer who had broken school records since he was in third grade. The incident happened the day before his birthday and one week before an important swim meet, which he had to miss. He had just signed up for a traveling baseball team and was supposed to participate in other sports during the summer, but he had to cancel these plans.
