A motor vehicle accident involving a motorcyclist and a truck resulted in the death of the motorcyclists near Odessa. The motorcycle operator, 34-year-old Erik Kator, was driving his motorcycle in the left lane on Highway 191 around 5 p.m. on Friday October 25, 2013 at the time of the incident. The truck, a pickup, entered the highway at FM 1788 and merged into the left land, causing Mr, Kator to swerve in an attempt to avoid the oncoming truck. Mr. Kator impacted the median.
Following the incident, Mr. Kator was transported to the hospital, and although he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, he did not survive the incident and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Motorcycle accidents are commonplace as motorists often fail to see or to yield to motorcycles. The cause of this particular accident has apparently not yet been determined and investigation is ongoing.
