Semi truck driver killed in Terry County

According to DPS officials, a semi truck driver was killed in a rollover crash in Terry County Monday morning. The crash took place around 7 a.m., the driver of the vehicle was 56-year-old Jefferey Stambaugh, of Hale Center, was driving a semi-truck with a trailer carrying milk southbound on U.S. 82/380.

At that point the semi truck crossed into oncoming traffic and clipped a Dodge van driven by 51-year-old Ricardo Moreno of Edinburg. The semi rolled over and Stambaugh was ejected from the truck.

Stambaugh was pronounced dead at the scene and Moreno and the other five passengers were checked into a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

In 2012, 3,328 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted driver, compared to 3,360 in 2011. An additional, 421,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver in 2012, a 9% increase from the 387,000 people injured in 2011.
