The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed that one El Paso teenager is dead due to a car crash on Highway 62 yesterday evening between El Paso and Carlsbad in Hudspeth County.
The teenager that was killed was 19-year-old Gabriel Garcia, according to officials Garcia was veering off the roadway when he over-corrected, crashing into another car.
The other driver involved with the crash was 48-year-old Juan Carlos Cornelio.
According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, drivers in their 20s make up 27 percent of the distracted drivers in fatal crashes.
Also, according to Distration.gov, 10% of all drivers under the age of 20 involved a deadly crash was reported as distracted at the time of the crash. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted.
