LUBBOCK, TEXAS – September 16, 2025 – Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers announced today the filing of a lawsuit against Roth Products of Texas, LLC after a distracted 18-wheeler driver struck two Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputies and three members of the Martinez family.
On the morning of September 8, the Martinez family became stranded on the I-27 overpass at 98th Street with a flat tire. Deputies Andrew Cavazos and Jorge Martinez stopped to assist, parking their patrol vehicles with emergency lights flashing to shield the family from traffic.
Texas law requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles. While every other driver complied, the Roth Products truck driver failed to slow down, failed to move over, and slammed into both patrol units.
The collision forced one patrol car against the overpass railing, pinning Deputies Cavazos and Martinez. Deputy Cavazos was thrown over the edge of the bridge and was left dangling by his
trapped leg until rescuers pulled him to safety. The second patrol unit was pushed into the Martinez family’s truck, injuring family members as well.
All five victims continue to recover physically and emotionally from the crash.
“This crash is a stark reminder to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles,” said attorney David Glasheen of Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers. “These laws exist to protect first responders and people like the Martinez family.”
“We are committed to holding the trucking company fully accountable,” Glasheen said. “We are here to fight to make the roads in our community safer.”
