Yesterday a jury in El Paso, Texas awarded $104 million to the family of a man killed by a Mesilla Valley Transportation 18-wheeler driver in October 2020. Orlando Robles, who was 38 at the time, was killed when his training driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a parked truck.
The verdict included $76,500,000 for the wife, mother, and five children of Mr. Robles who were represented by attorneys David Glasheen and Jason Medina of Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers of El Paso. The verdict also included $27.5 million for the clients of Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C.
Glasheen, Valles & Inderman, attorneys for the Robles family, brought the lawsuit against Mesilla Valley Transportation for failing to follow trucking safety regulations that require drivers to get enough sleep before driving. The evidence presented at trial revealed that the truck driver had been using his cellphone throughout the night rather than sleeping – which was allowed by company policy. Driving while fatigued, the driver fell asleep and drove into a parked truck.

The trial was held in the 448th District Court of El Paso County, Texas.
